Here are some statistics for motor vehicle accidents for 2015 and 2016 nationwide:

In 2016:

37,461 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes
• Over 4,000 passenger-vehicle impaired crashes – a 5% increase from 2015, but it is less than the 8% increase from 2014 to 2015.
• Florida had 3,174 fatalities.
• Florida and California have 236 additional fatalities each, which are the largest increases in fatalities for 2016 compared to 2015 in the U.S.
• The amount of lives saved due to seatbelts is 14,668.
• Seatbelt use rate is over 90%

In 2015:
  • 2015, there were 6.3 million police-reported crashes and 2.4 million injured and bother numbers show increases over 2014 of 3% +.
  • Florida and California have 236 additional fatalities each, which are the largest increases in fatalities for 2016 compared to 2015 in the U.S.
  • Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death at age 10 and every age 16 through 23 in 2015.
